FAQ

How do I add my blog?
Just sign up and you can add it yourself. The whole site is automated.

What if it's irrelevant?
If your blog is irrelevant, it will be removed - enjoy ;)

So what turns up on the front page?
At the moment the front page just shows the latest 15 blog entries to be posted by aggregated blogs. The front page also show the latest 15 blogs to be added.

But what about collaborative filtering? Group moderation? Keyword matching?
We are going to play with those things in the future to better 'tune' what shows up on the front page. The java.blogs community produces some fantastic content on a regular basis, but we also spit out a lot of crap - the aim of the frontpage is to somehow separate the former (to be displayed) from the latter.

Remember - this is all just an experiment. If you have ideas on how you think this could work, tell us!

Can I list my blog if I don't want to be aggregated? Or indexed?
Certainly - we understand that blogging is a very personal thing and you may not want your blog to be aggregated or indexed. You can turn aggregation and indexing on or off by editing your blog on My Blogs & Profile.

What does the site run on?
The original Javablogs site was built in a whirlwind 2 working days in December 2002 by some of Atlassian's best code monkeys. It was then completely overhauled in March/April 2003 (over substantially more than two working days) for version 1.2. There has since been more changes made, including a UI morph, through December 2006 - February 2007. The current version is 1.5.2.

It's currently running on:

ENVIRONMENT: Red Hat 7.2, Sun JDK 1.6, OrionServer 2.2.0, PostgreSQL 7.1
OPENSYMPHONY OPEN SOURCE JAVA COMPONENTS: OSCore, OSCache, OSUser, SiteMesh, WebWork 2, XWork, Quartz
OTHER OPEN SOURCE JAVA COMPONENTS:
Spring, Hibernate, Lucene, Velocity, Apache XML-RPC, Rome, log4j
OTHER JAVA COMPONENTS: Atlassian Core, Glue, ElectricXML
DEVELOPED WITH: IDEA 6.0
